Trapani
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Characterised by long sandy beaches as well as rocky bays, it has beautiful scenery and remnants from a rich history. In the old part of the seaport town of Trapani, you can find many Medieval reminders such as the Church of St. Augustine. You can find old palaces and churches at Corso Vitterio Emanuelle. The Palace of Guidecco is definitely worth a visit.
Just outside Trapani, you might want to visit the Saline: the salt beds with their characteristic windmills. A nice trip to make is to sail along the salt banks to the island of Monzia in an authentic fishing boat, where you can see birds nesting and beautiful scenery. You can find long sandy beaches in Vito di Campo.
The Medieval village of Erice is not far from Trapani, and is one of the most beautiful villages in Sicily, with its narrow streets and a beautiful church and monastery. Segesta used to be an important city. Now you can find a Doric temple and the remains of the theatre. Enjoy an espresso or a glass of Marsala wine, some fresh fish and some pasta.
