Aachen and surrounding region

The city of Aachen has long been famous for its water. At 74°C, it is the hottest volcanic spring water north of the Alps. The wealthy used to make long journeys to the Aachen baths during the Roman empire. Water continues to be important in Aachen today, where tens of thousands of people still visit the baths in the "Carolus springs" every year. The city also houses a UNESCO world heritage cathedral, built by Emperor Charlemagne. The cathedral treasury is now open to the public and offer an insight into Aachen's rich past. The cultural picture is completed by the many other museums, historical buildings, fountains and beautiful squares. Fortunately, the city also has plenty of pubs and restaurants to satisfy its visitors. If this does not provide the relaxation you need, we could certainly recommend a hike in the nearby Eiffel hills. Other good reasons for visiting Aachen include the annual CHIO, one of the largest of equestrian events, or the Christmas market, which is visited by more than 1 million people.
