New destination for Maastricht: Ryanair announces Porto route Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, announced today (14th June 2010) that it will launch a new route from Maastricht Aachen airport to Porto in the North of Portugal. Ryanair doubles number of routes from Maastricht Aachen Airport The Irish low fare airline Ryanair announced it is adding two new destinations to it’s network at Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA). The new destinations are Faro, in the Algarve region in Southern Portugal and Malaga in Southern Spain. Together with the new service to Trapani, announced in November, the total number of available Ryanair services at MAA is 6, double the number the airline has offered thus far.

Cargo record Maastricht Aachen Airport in November During the month November Maastricht Aachen Airport has continued it’s growth in cargo volumes. As a result the all time record set during the month October was broken. A total 8,4 million kilo’s were processed at the airport.

Ryanair announces new route to Trapani Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today announced a new route from Maastricht-Aachen Airport to its base in Trapani, Italy. Iberia Cargo announces new service to Maastricht Aachen Airport Today Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) and Iberia Cargo proudly announce the start of a twice weekly service connecting MAA with Madrid Barajas Airport and further to destinations in Iberia Cargo’s network in Central and South America such as Sao Paolo, Bogota, Quito & Mexico City. Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, announced today (29th January 2009) that it will launch a new route from Maastricht-Aachen airport to Pisa (Florence) in Tuscany. Passenger and cargo volumes Maastricht Aachen Airport increase in 2008 Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) realised a considerable increase in both passenger and cargo volumes in the year 2008. A total of 252.000 passengers used the airport, an increase of 60% compared to 2007. Subsidiary company Maastricht Handling Services (MHS) processed 87 million kilograms of cargo, representing an increase of 8% over the 2007 volumes. Click here ›

Ryanair reinstates routes from MAA per April 2009 Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) is pleased to announce the reinstatement of the Ryanair flights to Barcelona-Girona and Alicante per April 2009. The airport and airline have reached agreement on this earlier this week. Halfjaarresultaten MAA In the first six months of the current financial year (April 1st – September 30th 2008) Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) has realised considerable growth compared to the previous year. Both passenger and cargo services, the airports main activities, have contributed to this result. In comparison to the first six months of the 2007/’08 financial year, cargo volumes have increased by 18% to a total of 46.000 tons. During the first six months of the 2007/2008 financial year, the number of passengers has more than doubled to a total of 155.000.

KLM anounces termination of Maastricht Aachen Airport – Amsterdam Schiphol service KLM has announced the termination of the 3x daily service connecting Maastricht Aachen Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with the start of the coming winter season (October 29th 2008). The decisions ends the last domestic service in the Netherlands which has been operated since 1966. KLM mentions the current economic circumstances resulting in disappointing financial performance as main motivation for the cancellation. The Dutch excotax has harmed the route as well and motivated KLM to publish flights from Dusseldorf on it’s Dutch website. Click here ›

MAA and Ryanair regret appeal court judgement to keep "ecotax" unaltered Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) and Ryanair regret the judgement by an appeal court to push forward with the so called “ecotax” as planned. MAA and Ryanair had asked the courts to suspend the tax until the European Commission had examined whether or not it constituted an illegal form of state aid to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Although the judgement ends the mutual efforts of Ryanair and MAA in the Dutch courts the battle will be taken to Brussels where Ryanair filed a complaint on the same matter in February 2008. 100000th Ryanair passenger at MAA On Tuesday the 24th of June, Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) and Ryanair, Europe’s largest low cost airline, celebrated the 100.000 passenger milestone. The number was reached just over a year since the start of Ryanair’s first route to/from the airport, Barcelona-Girona, launched June 2nd 2007. Due to high popularity of the route expansions to Valencia (started Oct. 28th 2007) and Alicante (started Nov. 2nd 2007) were soon announced. KLM Airbus A330-200 completes 1st ILS CATIIIb Landing at MAA On Friday, March 14 the new ILS CAT IIIb system at Maastricht Aachen Airport was officially inaugurated. An KLM Airbus A330-200 was the first aircraft to land using the system. Maastricht Aachen Airport is, besides Schiphol Airport, the only other Dutch airport operating this system.

MAA & Ryanair jointly figt against ecotax Today Ryanair has announced to join Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) in it’s court case against the Dutch government. The subject of the lawsuit is the much debated “ecotax” which will be introduced on July 1st, 2008. The tax is in violation with European law, and contradicting international aviation agreements signed by the Netherlands. Presented as a tax to compensate CO2 emissions from aviation, not a single euro of the €350 million the government hopes to raise will directly benefit the environment. New all year routes announced to ALICANTE and VALENCIA Ryanair, Europe's largest low cost airline has announced that it will start two new all year routes from Maastricht Aachen Airport.
Starting November 14th, Ryanair will fly 4 weekly services to Alicante and as of October 31st, 3 weekly services to Valencia.

Memorandum of understanding for establishment Maastricht Maintenance Boulevard signed Today five Dutch MRO companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a Maintenance Boulevard at Maastricht Aachen Airport. Maintenance Boulevard is an initiative for Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) in which multiple Dutch Aircraft Maintenance organizations will be housed on a single location to bundle their activities. Maastricht Aviation Aircraft Services spray paints plane in unique colours On Thursday 7th December, the first plane of the brand new British airline SILVERJET took to the skies from Maastricht Aachen Airport. This striking, silver grey Boeing 767 is the first to be sprayed in SILVERJET colours by Maastricht Aviation Aircraft Services. Maastricht Aviation Aircraft Services is a company of Irish origin that specialises in aircraft painting. From the start of next year, the plane will provide a luxury business class service for SILVERJET between London and New York.

Maastricht Aachen Airport chosen as aircraft maintenance growth centre A high level study has concluded that Maastricht Aachen Airport should be the location of a “Maintenance Boulevard “ for The Netherlands. The initiative means that Maastricht should be developed as a centre of excellence for aircraft maintenance. The study was commissioed by the Netherlands Aerospace Group, on behalf of twelve companies which are operate in the field of aircraft-maintenance. Three airports and regions participated in the study; Eindhoven Airport, Maastricht Aachen Airport and Enschede Airport Twente.
