Lourdes is located in the south of France, at the foot of the Pyrenees. The town owes its fame to the apparition of Mary.
Millions of pilgrims visit this pilgrimage every year. Everyday, thousands of people visit the cave where Mary appeared eighteen times in 1858 to the girl Bernadette.
In Lourdes, people light a candle and stand still at the cave where Mary appeared. In the back of the cave is the source of the spring water, from which many sick gather power. Daily services are held where the pilgrims are addressed in all languages. A great event is the procession of lights. In the evening, the pilgrims go along in the light procession, with a lighted candle in hand.
