Via Izmir, the most modern and colourful city of Turkey, you can travel to one of the many coastal towns, along fields with trees full of tangerines, citrus fruits, olives, mulberries, peaches and pomegranates. The largest and best known seaside resort is Kusadasi. It’s a real gem, whether you travel with or without children. It’s a small and cosy port town with a charming centre. Be sure to visit the Old Town with its winding streets and authentic shops that sell, for example, jewellery, ceramics and leather products. Pay a visit to the hairdresser, the jewellery shop where you can design your own necklace, or the workshops for ceramics and leather bags. Özdere is less crowded but equally lively, with narrow alleys, a village square with a mosque, an attractive shopping street, cosy restaurants and a weekly market on Saturdays.
Gümüldür and Seferihisar are authentic towns, where you will find peace and quiet instead of a buzzing nightlife. Crystal clear waters and beautiful beaches make it feel like paradise.
For those who prefer to ‘see and be seen’, Alacati is the place to be. Coloured houses, vineyards and windmills make this town authentic, charming and picturesque. This is where you stroll among famous actors and personalities who are attracted to the town’s exclusive night clubs and parties.
Izmir, with more than four million inhabitants, is rightfully called a metropolis. So if you feel like experiencing big city dynamics, this is where to go. Still, everything is relatively close at hand. Izmir is hip and happening. You will see it in its unique shops and trendy clubs.
