European Entry/Exit System (EES)

Flying to Maastricht Aachen Airport with a non-EU passport?
If you are flying to Maastricht Aachen Airport with a non-EU passport, pay attention when passing through the European border at the airport. From 3 November 2025, you may need to register in the European Entry/Exit System (EES). This digital registration will eventually replace the stamp in your passport.

We are happy to explain what the EES is and how registration works at Maastricht Aachen Airport.

What is the Entry/Exit System (EES)?
The EES is a digital database that records the arrival and departure dates of non-EU residents traveling to Europe for a short stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. The government stores your biometric data (facial photo and fingerprints) and information from your travel documents in this database.

EES at Maastricht Aachen Airport: what to expect
From 3 November 2025, Maastricht Aachen Airport will start phased registration of travelers with a non-EU passport. This means:

  • You may not need to register the first time you arrive at Maastricht Aachen Airport

  • Not all of your data may be collected immediately

  • Full implementation is expected by 10 April 2026

Do I need to register?
You must register in the European Entry/Exit System (EES) if you are traveling from outside Europe with a non-EU passport and staying in Europe for less than 3 months. Once registered in the EES, your registration is valid for all European borders, including Maastricht Aachen Airport.

Future travels to Europe via Maastricht Aachen Airport
Once registered, your fingerprints and facial photo are stored in the EES database. If you travel again via Maastricht Aachen Airport later, the authorities only need to verify your biometric data and record your arrival or departure date.
EES registration is valid for a maximum of 3 years or until your passport expires. If you get a new passport, you will need to re-register your biometric data (facial photo and fingerprints) at the EES kiosk.
